This year’s graduation season, Zhou Wenjiang, graduate from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Hubei University, was once depressed. He had participated in several job recruitments, but due to a long period of hesitation between finding a job and preparing for the Unified National Graduate Entrance Examination (UNGEE), and a lack of job preparation, he had not yet found a job with graduation approaching.
To help him, the School's Baymax Cares Studio (BCS) guided Zhou Wenjiang to change his concept of employment. Meanwhile, after fully understanding on his employment intentions, the BCS provided him with precise screening of recruitment companies and information of three suitable companies, as well as guidance on interview skills. Finally, on the eve of graduation, Zhou Wenjiang signed an employment agreement with a Guangzhou pharmaceutical foreign trade company.
"Keeping students up to date with effective employment information is key to achieving employment. Providing employment-challenged students with information on the job openings they really need is the only way to achieve efficient employment." Liang Hao said, who is a teacher at the Baymax Cares Studio.
Established in 2017, Baymax Cares Studio, whose members are teachers from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, specializes in solving the difficulties of students in various aspects of the school and has helped a total of more than 100 students in the past four years since its establishment, including those with financial, academic and employment troubles.
During the employment assistance, the BCS implements the requirements related to employment guidance and services for graduates and provides guidance on career planning for students in all grades of the school in a tiered and classified manner.
Zhu Li Yun, a pharmaceutical engineering student from rural Gansu Province, whose family suffers from financial problems and death on father, had a psychological crisis during her school years which leads to difficulty in continuing her studies. To help her, the BCS developed a tailor-made support plan for her, recommending her to apply for work-study positions and get paid for part-time work after school to relieve the financial pressure and study at ease.
In response to Zhu Li Yun's psychological problems, the studio also developed an emotional support programme for her and established a good communication and interaction mechanism. After a period of guidance, Zhu Li Yun's emotions stabilized and her studies and life gradually got back on track.
The BCS conducts career planning for new students from the very beginning of their enrolment and organizes a career planning competition for freshmen and offers career planning courses. They also focuses on personal self-awareness, target-career awareness, positioning and planning, so that students can clarify the basic components and methods of career planning.
Based on a comprehensive grasp of the employment progress and psychological dynamic stages of graduates, the BCS, under the principle that "no one is left behind", helps the students with financial difficulties, physical disabilities, difficulties in preparing UNGEE or low motivation for employment. Furthermore, after fully understanding their employment wills, the BCS will recommend suitable jobs for the students.
In the 2020 graduation season, Liu Chang, a 2016 student from the school, failed by a narrow margin in the examinations to his first-choice university. After the long communication with his family and tutors, he decided to chase for the university again. Hearing that, the BCS not only provided him with a research assistant position in the school to relieve his financial pressure, but also contacted his targeted university and the tutors to explain to him the skills of the retest. This year, with his own efforts and the help of BCS, Liu Chang succeeded in his examinations.
Liu Huaiyuan, deputy secretary of the CPC Committee of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Hubei University, said that the BCS wound based on the learning characteristics of students, under implements stratified and classified guidance, to carry out personalized employment guidance activities. The BCS also guides students to establish the correct concept of career choice, enhances their employability and employment awareness to makes every effort to promote fuller and higher quality employment of graduates, while continuously improving the quality of employment and employment satisfaction of students.
To increase the work of innovative initiatives, the BCS also focuses on "party branch +, graduation class counselors +, employed graduates +, alumni +, class committee +" and other ways to promote employment, mobilizing all staffs like professional teachers, counselors, class teachers, alumni to help get the integration of employment information and collection of employment support forces.
The secretary of the Committee of Communist Youth League of China of Hubei University, Gan Xun, said, “In order to highlight precise assistance and expand employment channels, we not only invite lecturers give online lectures about career guidance and planning to build a solid foundation for employment education, but also invite both internal and external business mentors and alumni entrepreneurs to hold seminars and salons to guide students to choose a reasonable career and proper employment.
