Academic Lecture by Dr. Shao Baihao of Dartmouth College in HuBei University

On the afternoon of December 13, 2019, Dr. Shao Baihao, Department of chemistry, Dartmouth College, USA, was invited to give an academic report in our university. The academic report was held in conference Room D513, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The report was presided over by Dr. Li Quan, and relevant teachers and postgraduate students of the school attended the report meeting.

Dr. Shao 's report is entitled "Studies on solution / solid state photoswitching and fluorescence properties of bistable hydrazone photochromes". In his report, Dr. Shao introduced the development process of the new photoresponsive hydrazone molecular switch, focusing on the regulation of liquid and solid-state fluorescence properties of this kind of molecular switch, and showed its potential applications in the fields of fluorescence display, erasable materials and so on. The report lays stress on both the structural interpretation at the molecular level and the performance analysis of macro materials, which further demonstrates the universal chemical principle that structure determines performance. Dr. Shao's explained the structure and performance in detail, which is beneficial to all present. Also, he shared his study experience in the United States and encouraged us to seek advice and work diligently with an open mind.

Dr. Shao received his B.S. degree from Zhejiang University in 2015, and then went to Dartmouth College for his Ph.D. degree in chemistry in 2016, mainly focusing on fluorescent probes, responsive molecular switches and so on. He has been awarded The Outstanding Undergraduate Thesis Award of Zhejiang University (2015), The Arthur Dunham Holmes 1906 Memorial Graduate Fellowship (2019) and other awards. So far, he has published more than ten papers in JACS, Chem.Com, etc.
